Betfred Championship Preview | Round 8

Round 8 of the Betfred Championship kicks off with Salford hosting Halifax Panthers on Saturday.

Then, can, Oldham make it three wins on the spin when they travel to face Hunslet on Sunday? The Roughyeds will be motivated by recent results against the West Yorkshire side – 48-16 and 4-54 were the scorelines when the two met last year; both in Oldham's favour.

Nearby, Rochdale Hornets take on Goole Vikings. The teams have met twice in history, with the Hornets posting 50 points on their opponents in both of these matches. Can we expect a closer contest this time round?

A victory for the Vikings could see them leapfrog the Hornets in the league standings…

There’s more action in the capital this weekend when London Broncos welcome Batley Bulldogs to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The Broncos have been formidable so far and will look to produce another strong win in front of their home crowd.

It could be a special day for Will Lovell, who needs just one appearance to draw level with Steele Retchless as the London club’s all-time leader!

A cracker is on the cards when Keighley Cougars and Midlands Hurricanes face off at Cougar Park. Their Round 3 Betfred Challenge Cup clash was a thriller back in February, with the Cougars claiming a tight 18-14 win.

Their two meetings last season were decided by just two points on each occasion, and it was also one a piece...

Will Dewsbury Rams secure back-to-back wins, or can Sheffield Eagles respond to last week's defeat? It will be their first reconciliation since 2024 on Sunday.

A determined Doncaster are searching for their fifth straight win. Richard Horne’s side climbed to second in the table following their emphatic victory over Widnes Vikings in the previous round, and will be aiming to stay there for another week if they can.

Standing in their way are Swinton Lions – a side still looking for their first league victory of the year.

It is the Dons who have won their last two meetings – will they prove too strong for the Lions once more?

Newcastle Thunder will enjoy home advantage again in Round 8 as they welcome Workington Town to the Northeast.

Thunder will be aiming to climb the league ladder and keep tabs on the top five, whilst Town will be working on moving away from the bottom area of the table.

Workington playmaker Jake Carter has scored tries in Town’s last three games against Newcastle – how pivotal will he be at the weekend?

Whitehaven are also on the road in Round 8, as they travel to Colwyn Bay, the home of North Wales Crusaders.
